Printable and Flexible Iridium Oxide-Based pH Sensor by a Roll-to-Roll Process

A flexible pH sensor based on using iridium oxide (IrOx) as the sensing film was developed by roll-to-roll (R2R) process. The inert and biocompatible properties of IrOx make it a desired metal for pH-sensing applications. substrates being continuously processed R2R technique provides advantages scalability, reconfigurability, resiliency, on-demand manufacturing, high throughput, without need vacuum systems. Potential sweeps cyclic voltammetry across against commercial planar Ag/AgCl electrodes validated reversible electrochemical mechanisms. Multiple showed similar output potentials when tested in range 2–13, indicating good fabrication uniformity. For practical applications, IrOx/Ag-AgCl pairs polyimide were tested, with linear fit within achieving Nernstian responses around −60.6 mV/pH. sensors repeatability analyzed hysteresis, drift, fluctuation, deviation stability factors. selectivity interference ions effect temperature studied compared reported values. further laminated process compatible packaging. under flat curved surface conditions. Tests artificial sweat viscous solutions Clarke error grid, showing reliable performance. materials used during manufacturing processes sustainable, active small amounts there no waste processing.
